General Meeting Minutes

November 14, 2016

1. Call to order / Approval of minutes from the last meeting – Diana Guerra

a. Call to order made by Diana Guerra at 6:32pm

b. Motion to approve minutes from last meeting made by Diana Guerra. Second by Michele Bookbinder and Courtney Dwyer

2. Treasurer’s Report – Marie Tillson

a. Fall Social made $1546.

b. Buddy Birthday Gram is on budget

c. Yankee Candle came in slightly under budget

d. Restaurant Night made $165.

e. Expenses: 4th grade T-shirts

3. Principal’s Report – Dr. Z

a. November 17th is Literacy Night at BHS from 6-7:30pm

b. Teacher goal assessments are right on track. BHS students are outperforming benchmark averages

c. Early dismissal is November 22nd and 23rd

d. Children’s attendance is very important. State regulation considers a student truant when they have either 4 unexcused absences in 1 month or 10 unexcused times throughout the school year

e. Classroom celebrations will be implemented through the curriculum activities

4. Teacher Representative – Martha Gaynor

a. Thank you to the BHS parents for working so closely with each child

5. Director’s Reports

a. Programs – Melissa Ferreira & Ewa Szepietowski- just starting to think of ideas for TAW

b. Communications –Sara Widomski- no report

c. Community Outreach – Dana Wirth & Leigh Boulanger

i. We collected 3065 socks for the sock drive. They will be delivered to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission

ii. Adopt an Angel is underway

d. Curriculum Support – Melissa Zaccagnini & Mandy Kilmartin

i. After school programs are currently taking place

e. Cultural – Andrea Onofrio & Jennifer Recker

i. Future event is Corey the Dribbler

ii. Looking into a Storyteller assembly

iii. SIS Jazz band is a future assembly

f. Fundraising – Karen Bonitatebus & Debra Badas

i. Apparel Fundraiser is starting this week

ii. Looking for vendors for the Breakfast with Santa Vendor Fair event

g. Parent Involvement – Megan Gates- no report

h. Social – Marcie Ames & Melissa Butterfield- no report

i. Government Affairs – George Mladsi- no report

6. President’s Report – Diana Guerra

a. Met with John Calhoun to go over what is required to update the playground.

b. Mrs. Atkinson has asked the PTO to help support the Huntington Fire Department. Approval was received and the BHS PTO will be donating $50 to the Huntington Fire Department for their 100thAnniversary and for their fire fighter convention. Our donation is for craft supplies for the children’s corner at their fundraising event.

c. There is a PTO open position on the Executive Board for 1st Vice President. The deadline for nominations will be November 21st by 11am

8. Comments, Questions, Concerns

a. The Holiday Concert Celebration will be December 20th at 10am (snow date is Dec. 22)

b. Breakfast with Santa event is December 10th from 9-12pm. Fliers will be coming home soon

c. Please refrain from posting group shots of students on Facebook due to restrictions and guidelines regarding privacy concerns.
